My Favourite Players

Robert Prosinecki - The Chosen One!

How we ever got him I don't know, current Croatian international at the time and was the most skilful player I have and are ever likely to see at Fratton Park. Unfortunately the rest of the team around him was just not up to standard so to a fair degree his talent was wasted

The Rest Of the Heroes

Mick Mellows:- My original favourite, can't really remember much about him as a player or how good he really was. I do know he won Player Of The Year in about 74 so can't have been that bad.

Mick Kennedy:- Hard as nails, wasn't the greatest of players in the skill sense but feared no one and could stop anyone else playing. Most memorable games where against Tottenham in the then Milk Cup when Glen Hoddle was at his peak. Every time he got the ball Kennedy was in and away with his legs, Hoddle never lasted the game and Ossie Ardiles suffered the same fate in the replays.

Arjan De Zeeuw:- Had never heard of him when he signed. A Second Division player signed on a free from Wigan in the hope he could be part of a Division One promotion team?, no chance I thought. How wrong could I be, absolute class in the tackle, good in the air and a great team player. Many doubted he would be up to the Premiership but has proved many wrong. Alain Perrins biggest mistake was allowing him to leave.

Dave Kemp:- We didn't have many great players through the 70's but Dave Kemp proved he knew where the goal was. Got in exchange for George Graham from Crystal Palace and certainly proved a bargain although he never achieved the same level at other clubs.
