1950 – Peter Marinello

Peter Marinello is a former Scottish football player.

Marinello started his career at Hibernian, and could play either as a centre forward or right winger. He was regarded as being talented enough there that he was dubbed “the next George Best” by the British press.

Marinello played 110 times for Portsmouth scoring 10 goals between 1973 – 1975

1953 – David Kemp

David Michael Kemp is an English former professional footballer and manager. And is currently Assistant Manager at Middlesbrough FC.

Kemp began his career with Harrow Borough, subsequently playing for Maidenhead United and Slough Town before joining Crystal Palace in April 1975. He moved to Portsmouth in November 1976 and was their leading goalscorer in both the 1976–77 and 1977–78 seasons, despite not playing a full season for the club. A hugely popular player whilst at the club he even featured in Roy of the Rovers magazine photographed alongside his fictional goalscoring counterpart

During the time he played for Pompey, a song was sung in his honour, to the tune of Lily The Pink. It is a song that is still sung today (2017). Kemp’s reputation as a fans’ favourite was further enhanced when he was inducted into the Portsmouth Hall of Fame in April, 2016

He moved to Carlisle United in March 1978, moving to Plymouth Argyle in September 1979 for a then club record fee of £75,000. He had loan spells with Gillingham (December 1981) and Brentford (March 1982) before joining NASL side Edmonton Drillers in June 1982. He spent the 1983 NASL season with Seattle Sounders and also played for San José Earthquakes before leaving the sinking ship of the NASL in 1984 for the Oklahoma City Stampede of the short-lived United Soccer League (he accrued the 2nd-highest points total in the league).

Kemp played 74 times for Portsmouth scoring 38 goals between 1976 – 1978

He rose to fame in the UK following his role in the Gold Blend couple television advertisements for Nescafé Gold Blend, and is known for his roles as Rupert Giles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Uther Pendragon in Merlin, the Prime Minister in Little Britain, and as Herc Shipwright in BBC Radio 4’s Cabin Pressure.

She is known for her television roles as Claire Fisher in Six Feet Under (2001–2005), for which she won two Screen Actors Guild Awards; and as Jilly Kitzinger in Torchwood: Miracle Day (2011). Her film credits include Can’t Hardly Wait (1998), Psycho Beach Party (2000) and Where the Wild Things Are (2009).

She is the lead singer of the ragtime band Lauren Ambrose and the Leisure Class.

1932 – Nichelle Nichols

Nichelle Nichols is an American actress, singer and voice artist. She sang with Duke Ellington and Lionel Hampton before turning to acting. Her most famous role is that of communications officer Lieutenant Uhura aboard the USS Enterprise in the popular Star Trek television series (1966–1969), as well as the succeeding motion pictures, where her character was eventually promoted in Starfleet to the rank of commander.

Nichols’ Star Trek character, one of the first African American female characters on American television not portrayed as a servant, was groundbreaking in U.S. society. Civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. asked her to remain when she considered leaving the series.

Francis O’Kelly better known by his stage name of Frank Kelly, was an Irish actor, singer and writer, whose career covered television, radio, theatre, music, screenwriting and film. Hines has also had leading roles in a handful of films, and released three albums.

1980 – Lomana LuaLua

Trésor Lomana LuaLua is a Congolese footballer who plays as a striker.

LuaLua was born in Kinshasa, but moved to England at a young age. After impressing in a college football match, he signed for Colchester United. There, he scored a total of 21 goals in 68 appearances which prompted Newcastle United to sign him. However, the competition for places meant he was less of a regular in the first team, and after four seasons and 88 appearances, he transferred to Portsmouth, the club that had previously loaned him for three months while at Newcastle. He remained there for three seasons, but his spell was marred by disciplinary problems and malaria. After leaving Portsmouth, he moved teams frequently, representing sides in Greece, Qatar, Cyprus and Turkey, in addition to a brief return to English football at Blackpool. LuaLua received his first of 31 international caps in 2002, and scored seven goals in an eleven-year international career. He represented his national team at four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

LuaLua played 91 times for Portsmouth scoring 19 goals between 2004 – 2007
