Paul Robinson has made a shock Pompey exit.
The 33-year-old central defender joined the club on loan from Millwall at the start of last season and joined the club on a permanent basis in January.
He enjoyed a fine season at the heart of the defence, despite Pompey’s inconsistency, but then missed the final two months with the fractured cheekbone he suffered in the win over Luton Town in March.
After making a full recovery, it appeared that he was set to be named club captain by boss Paul Cook for the forthcoming campaign.
But he has now been deemed surplus to requirements and has left the club by mutual consent.
There will no shortage of takers for his services with several clubs in League One and League Two having expressed an interest in him previously. And his departure will be a big surprise to many Blues fans who thought he would be a pivotal figure this season.
