George Frederick Joffre Hartree, known as Charles Hawtrey, was an English comedy actor and musician.

Beginning at an early age as a boy soprano, he made several records before moving on to the radio. His later career encompassed the theatre (as both actor and director), the cinema (where he regularly appeared supporting Will Hay in the 1930s and 1940s in films such as The Ghost of St. Michael’s), through the Carry On films, and television.

Elisha Ann Cuthbert is a Canadian actress and model. In 2013, Maxim magazine named her “TV’s most beautiful woman”.

Kaley Christine Cuoco is an American actress. Michael Roger Channon is an English former footballer who played as a striker, most notably for Southampton and went on to represent the English national team in the 1970s. He later became a successful racehorse trainer.

Armando Giovanni Iannucci, OBE is a Scottish satirist, writer, television director, and radio producer.

Born in Glasgow, Iannucci studied at the University of Oxford, leaving graduate work on a PhD about John Milton to pursue a career in comedy. Starting on BBC Scotland and BBC Radio 4, his early work with Chris Morris on the radio series On the Hour was transferred to television as The Day Today. A character from this series, Alan Partridge, went on to feature in a number of Iannucci’s television and radio programmes, including Knowing Me Knowing You with Alan Partridge and I’m Alan Partridge. Iannucci also fronted the satirical Armistice review shows and in 2001 created his most personal work, The Armando Iannucci Shows, for Channel 4.

2010 – Leslie Nielsen

Born: 11 February 1926

Leslie William Nielsen was a Canadian actor, comedian, and producer. He appeared in more than 100 films and 150 television programs, portraying more than 220 characters.

Nielsen was born in Regina, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and later worked as a disc jockey before receiving a scholarship to study theatre at the Neighborhood Playhouse. Making his acting debut in 1950, appearing in 46 live television programs a year. Nielsen made his film debut in 1956, with supporting roles in several drama, western, and romance films produced between the 1950s and the 1970s.

Although his performances in the films Forbidden Planet and The Poseidon Adventure gave him standing as a serious actor, Nielsen later gained enduring recognition for his deadpan comedy roles during the 1980s, after being cast against type for the Zucker, Abrahams and Zucker comedy film Airplane!. In his comedy roles, Nielsen specialized in portraying characters oblivious to and complicit in their absurd surroundings. His appearance in Airplane! marked Nielsen’s turning point, making him “the [Laurence] Olivier of spoofs” according to film critic Roger Ebert, and leading to further success in the genre with The Naked Gun film series, based on the earlier short-lived television series Police Squad! in which Nielsen also starred. Nielsen received a variety of awards and was inducted into the Canada and Hollywood Walks of Fame.

1940 – Terry Gilliam

Terrence Vance “Terry” Gilliam is an American-born British screenwriter, film director, animator, actor, comedian and member of the Monty Python comedy troupe.

Gilliam has directed 12 feature films, including Time Bandits (1981), Brazil (1985), The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988), 12 Monkeys (1995), Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998), and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (2009). The only “Python” not born in Britain, he became a naturalised British subject in 1968 and formally renounced his American citizenship in 2006.

Gilliam was born in Minnesota, but spent his high school and college years in Los Angeles. He started his career as an animator and strip cartoonist. He joined Monty Python as the animator of their works, but eventually became a full member and was given acting roles. He became a feature film director in the 1970s. Most of his films explore the theme of imagination and its importance to life, express his opposition to bureaucracy and authoritarianism, and feature characters facing dark or paranoid situations. His own scripts feature black comedy and tragicomedy elements, combined with surprise endings.

His performances in the 2002–03 UEFA Champions League for Maccabi Haifa earned a loan move to English club Portsmouth which became permanent as they were promoted to the Premier League in 2003. He has since appeared in over 250 Premier League matches for Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Everton, and Blackburn Rovers, and is the second highest African goalscorer in Premier League history with 96 goals. He is the third highest scorer in the history of the Nigeria national football team, and represented them at four African Cup of Nations finals, the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the football at the 2000 Summer Olympics.

1962 – Warren Neil

Warren Anthony Neill is a retired English footballer who played for Queens Park Rangers and Portsmouth. After his playing career, he rejoined Queens Park Rangers as a coach.

Neill made his QPR debut against Chelsea in 1980 and went on to play 181 league games scoring 3 goals. He played in the FA Cup Final replay in 1982, was part of the Second Division Championship team in 1983 and a member of the 1986 Milk Cup final team.

He transferred to Portsmouth in 1988. He helped Portsmouth to the 1992 FA Cup semi final, and provided the through pass for Pompey’s goal in the first game, but was one of three Pompey players to miss his kick as they lost the replay on a penalty shootout to Liverpool.

He was invited onto the QPR coaching staff by manager John Gregory towards the end of the 2006/07 season on a temporary basis, making the deal permanent in June 2007. On 16 January 2008 Neill joined Luton Town as assistant to Mick Harford. On 27 November 2008, Neill was released from his position of assistant, being replaced by former Luton player Kevin Watson.

Mark Valentine Chamberlain is an English former international footballer. He is the younger brother of Neville Chamberlain, and the father of Liverpool and England international player Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Portsmouth’s Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain.

He began his professional playing career with Port Vale in 1978, where he remained for four years before being sold on to rivals Stoke City, having already been selected for the PFA Fourth Division Team of the Year in 1981–82. In 1985, he signed with Sheffield Wednesday, before he moved on to Portsmouth three years later. He remained with “Pompey” until 1994, at which point he transferred to Brighton & Hove Albion.
