REVIEW

A middle of the road sort of comedy drama.  An assortment of likeable characters make it a watchable if not amazing film

Kenny Jackett appointed manager

New boss excited by Fratton challenge

Portsmouth Football Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Kenny Jackett as first team manager.

The former Watford, Swansea, Millwall, Wolves and Rotherham boss has signed a two-year deal at Fratton Park.

The club are in advanced talks with Joe Gallen – who has worked with Jackett at QPR, Millwall and Wolves – about becoming assistant manager.

Jackett said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for me and I’m looking forward to getting started. It’s an exciting challenge.

“This club has a passionate fan-base and they can be a 12th man for us. Hopefully we can build on the momentum of last season and continue to progress.

“I can promise that I’ll work as hard as I possibly can to make sure that we can bring success to Portsmouth.”

Blues chief executive Mark Catlin added: “We’re delighted to announce Kenny as our new manager – he ticks so many boxes for us.

“He’s managed big clubs with big expectations in the past and has plenty of experience of getting sides out of League One.

“Kenny also has a history of implementing strong structures to move clubs forward and this was key in our decision-making process. We’re excited about him bringing his philosophy of development to Pompey.”

Jackett spent his entire playing career with Watford and later enjoyed promotion success as a manager with Swansea, Millwall and Wolves

Manager takes up Wigan post

Paul Cook has stepped down as Pompey boss to take up the vacant managerial position at Wigan Athletic.

A financial compensation agreement was reached with Wigan over the weekend, resulting in permission being granted for the Latics to speak to Paul.

Assistant manager Leam Richardson has also left Fratton Park.

Cook arrived at Pompey in May 2015 and led the club to the League Two play-offs in his first season in charge.

There was even more success at the end of last term, with the Blues earning automatic promotion and securing the title on a dramatic final day.

No it’s not mine, but this site has now been online, in its current form, for two years!

2015 2016 2017

Very few format changes from last time just a bit more content.

Also on that very first day I announced the arrival of Kyle Bennett and Kal Naismith to Portsmouth and a year later (2016) I had indicated that Kal Naismith had been a disappointment. A year makes a lot of difference and now Naismith is currently one of our best players

Liam O’Brien

End Of Contract

Keeper to leave Fratton Park

Liam O’Brien has agreed a deal to sign for Coventry.

The 25-year-old goalkeeper will join the League Two side when his Pompey contract expires next month.

He played three times for the Blues last season, with all of his appearances coming in the EFL Trophy group stages.

O’Brien kept a clean sheet in a victory over Bristol Rovers and also saved three penalties in a shoot-out defeat to Reading.

He came through the youth system at Fratton Park before going on to play for Barnet, Brentford and Dagenham.

But O’Brien returned last summer and deputised for David Forde, sitting on the bench for every League Two fixture.

Portsmouth Trust Statement

Over the last two weeks, 2,272 PST shareholders have cast their vote to determine the outcome of the Tornante bid for Portsmouth Football Club.

Following a 93.6 % turnout, 1,825 shareholders voted to sell the PST shares.

On Saturday, the PST Secretary informed Portsmouth FC of the outcome of the vote and the wish to sell the PST’s 48.5% shareholding to Tornante.

75% of the Presidents have voted to sell their respective stakes in the club.  Together with the PST’s 48.5%, this means 81.4% of the club’s equity holding is in agreement with the sale. The threshold to approve a sale, as laid down in the shareholders’ agreement, is 75%

Discussions around the sale will now begin with Tornante representatives and the timeline will be managed by Tornante.

PST Chairman Ashley Brown said “This is true fan ownership and democracy at work. Our fans decided who the next owner of our club would be – and it will be Michael Eisner and Tornante. The Trust board would like to wish Michael the very best of luck. We believe he understands the importance of the custodianship of Pompey and will be an owner all fans will be proud of. We look forward to working with him, his family and Tornante for many years to come”

Throughout this process, the PST board have strived to provide the membership with factual information to enable them to make an informed decision. During negotiations, PST presented matters and issues previously discussed with the membership and are pleased that some have been included in the Tornante offer. We will shortly begin a new era at Fratton Park and the Trust will continue to be an influential and relevant body in the club’s future. We will have three board members representing the PST on the Heritage and advisory board and we will be happy to help the Eisner family in any way we can to ensure the long term success of Portsmouth FC.

Our Trust Directors on the PFC board will remain in place during the transition period and will be working to find ways to enable Michael Eisner to assist the coaching staff in their close season planning ahead of the deal closure. After such a tremendous season, we would like to thank Paul Cook, his coaching team and the players for the fantastic job they have done, and wish them all the very best of luck in League One. The board would also like to thank Iain McInnes for his passionate and focused leadership as Chairman of Pompey.

Most importantly, we would like to thank you, the shareholders, fundraisers, syndicate members and fans whose incredible support allowed a fan owned club to recover from a perilous state to become Champions of League Two.
